Texts by Khadijah Gohr

Words have always been my close friends. I remember my sister trying to teach me to draw, and when she wasn’t looking I would begin writing all over my drawings. Words have the power to paint images and to tell transformative stories. As a kid, especially in lonely moments, I would spend time listening to fairytales on records and quizzing my teddy bears on their knowledge of spiritual allegories and texts. Words and stories, whether written or spoken, gave me a feeling of belonging. I look forward to sharing my stories with you and hope you will share yours with me too.

Drawing has always been my favorite thing to do. Growing up I loved reading comics, reading books about mythologies and playing computer. All of this inspired my drawing style. I always feel the happiest when drawing things I find beautiful and at the same time chaotic. For me Art is a meditative device. The meditative nature of drawing helps me to answer lingering questions. Expressing and interpreting feelings with old and new symbolisms is a great way to find out what your soul wants to communicate.
